Mkrtich Armen's "My Letter" depicts the tragic love of political prisoners Kovalyov and Peskova, who meet at a distribution center and instantly fall in love, knowing the alphabetical roll call will inevitably separate them into different camps. Their agonizing race against time is interrupted by an unexpected miracle: the criminal Fofanov, deeply moved by their pure affection, sacrifices his identity by shouting "I am Kovalyov," granting the couple a few extra precious minutes together.
