"The Great Lock" is a Persian allegory about the artist Mani, who, searching for a new subject, finds a tomb secured with a massive lock. After immense effort to break it, he discovers the tomb has no back wall and is completely open to the world . This paradox reveals the nature of desire: it is the difficulty of attainment (the lock) that makes an object desirable, even if it is inherently empty or accessible ։
