New e-book: Sakeus, Knut Hamsun
On the American prairies at Billibony’s remote farm, during the grain harvest season, itinerant workers from various countries work side by side. Almost blind Sakeus and the cook Polly begin to quarrel over a newspaper and water, but the boredom of isolated life, illness and mutual humiliation make their feud grow more and more brutal. The story portrays people’s harsh coexistence, dignity and the consequences of revenge against a backdrop of boundless fields and hard physical labor.
