New e-book: The Last Lesson, Alphonse Daudet
The story is told from the perspective of an Alsatian boy named Franz. That morning he was late for school, fearing reproach for not knowing participles. The weather was beautiful, and the boy longed to wander outside, but he forced himself to go to class. Near the town hall he saw a crowd of people reading a notice. The blacksmith Wachter advised him not to hurry, saying: “Don’t rush to school, lad; you’ll get there anyway.”
