New e-book: Francesco, Elli Alexiou

The story takes place in a Greek town in the first half of the twentieth century, in the impoverished atmosphere of the postwar years. A young teacher allows little Francesco, the younger brother of one of her pupils, to spend his days in the classroom although he is too young to attend school officially. Through everyday lessons, children’s routines and moments of hardship, the narrative reveals poverty, social indifference and the fragile compassion that resists rigid rules.
