In an Armenian provincial town of the Russian Empire in the second half of the nineteenth century, everyday conversations and newspaper reports reveal the hidden workings of public life. The church servant Petros and the self-important correspondent Hako inhabit a world where rumor can quickly become “truth” and the printed word becomes a means of influence. The story explores false authority, self-interest, bias, and the way public opinion is shaped by those who control information.
